After a heartwarming 27-day search, Lyle, a brown poodle mix, has returned home just in time for the holidays. The pup, who escaped from his foster family in Kelowna on November 22, was finally caught by volunteers from the local animal rescue organization Paws It Forward late Wednesday afternoon. Charlotte, a dedicated member of the Paws It Forward team, shared the joyous news shortly after Lyle was found. "Today at 6:02 p.m., we caught him," she reported. Exhausted but unharmed, Lyle was found bundled in a blanket, resting comfortably on the lap of a fellow volunteer. The journey to bring Lyle home was no small feat. For nearly a month, Charlotte and her fellow volunteers, along with countless community members, combed the city in search of the elusive dog. Despite spotting him on a few occasions, Lyle managed to evade capture, living off the land in the north end of Kelowna. "It was a massive job with over a hundred volunteers coming together to help us bring Lyle home," Charlotte remarked. The outpouring of community support proved invaluable, as residents sent in tips whenever they spotted the wandering pup. Volunteers spent hours walking through neighborhoods, hanging posters, and going door-to-door in search of Lyle. One notable contribution came from a local man named Mike, who, unbeknownst to him, was feeding the missing dog for weeks. Once he learned that Lyle was the dog in question, he graciously allowed the Paws It Forward team onto his property to set up cameras and a trap, ultimately leading to Lyle’s safe capture. Now back in the warmth of a caring environment, Lyle is expected to make a full recovery. A visit to the veterinarian is scheduled to ensure he is in good health following his month-long adventure. As the holidays approach, the relief felt by volunteers and community supporters is palpable. "We can finally rest," Charlotte expressed, encapsulating the sense of triumph and joy shared among those involved in the search. Paws It Forward continues to operate with approximately 100 dogs in foster care, each looking for their forever homes. For those interested in adopting or learning more about their mission, additional information can be found at pawsitforward.org. Tonight, as Lyle snuggles in warmth and comfort, the volunteers who dedicated their time and effort can finally relax, knowing they played a crucial role in reuniting a beloved pet with his community.
