In a heartwarming initiative aimed at spreading joy during the festive season, the Standing Tall Foundation, a charity based in St Helens and led by war veteran Andy Reid, has successfully delivered 1,500 Christmas presents to vulnerable families across the borough. This commendable effort is designed to ensure that those in greatest need have something to open on Christmas Day. The presents will be distributed among 50 schools and homeless families, reflecting the foundation's commitment to supporting the community's most vulnerable. Established in 2020 by Reid MBE and co-founder John Tabern, the Standing Tall Foundation has focused on promoting mental and physical health within St Helens. The organization provides a range of services including counselling, housing assistance, benefits support, and initiatives aimed at encouraging physical activity. In addition to their year-round support for individuals facing financial hardships, the Foundation plays an integral role in assisting the homeless by providing essential items and services. This year's Christmas initiative is a testament to their ongoing efforts to uplift those in need, particularly during a season when the challenges of hardship can feel especially pronounced. A dedicated team of volunteers from the St Helens town centre regeneration project, organized by VINCI Building, helped to wrap, pack, and deliver the presents. This project is part of a larger regeneration scheme in partnership with St Helens Borough Council and ECF—a collaborative venture involving Homes England, Legal & General, and Muse. Charlie Eke, executive officer at the Standing Tall Foundation, expressed gratitude for the community's involvement in the initiative. "At the foundation, we're dedicated to providing for those who have the least in St Helens, especially at this time of year where hardship is often felt the most," he stated. Eke emphasized the importance of collaboration, thanking the many like-minded volunteers who stepped up to support the cause. Councillor Richard McCauley, who oversees inclusive growth and regeneration at St Helens Borough Council, echoed Eke's sentiments. He highlighted the responsibility felt by the community to support its most vulnerable members, especially during the holiday season. "Social value extends to every corner of St Helens and the Standing Tall Foundation sets an excellent example of this, providing essential support year-round to our town's most vulnerable," McCauley remarked. He expressed his satisfaction at seeing the town centre project team actively participating in this vital initiative. The dedication displayed by the Standing Tall Foundation and its volunteers not only exemplifies community spirit but also serves as an important reminder of the collective responsibility to support those who may be struggling.
