In an exciting development for the community of Melksham, the town council has received funding from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund to create a new play park on Awdrey Avenue. This initiative, born from the collaborative efforts of local residents and Wiltshire Council's Community Conversations initiative, highlights the community's commitment to enhancing recreational facilities for families and children. The new play park is set to feature innovative designs that incorporate natural elements and imaginative play spaces, catering specifically to children aged up to 12 years. These thoughtfully crafted areas will not only provide a fun environment but also promote adventurous and risk-based play, supporting the developmental needs of children while ensuring an inclusive atmosphere for families. Construction is slated to commence in January 2025, with the park anticipated to open its gates by April 2025. Hayley Bell, the Deputy Town Clerk, expressed her enthusiasm for the project, stating, “We are excited to provide a space where children and families can come together, explore, and enjoy the outdoors in a thoughtfully designed environment.” This initiative is a testament to the council's ongoing commitment to improving community spaces and enhancing the well-being of all residents. In addition to the new play park, Melksham Town Council is also set to launch a Youth Advisory Board, with a special event scheduled for Saturday, February 15, 2025. This event will serve as a celebration of youth and provide a platform for young voices in the community. Open to all young people aged 14 to 18, and up to 25 for those with Special Educational Needs (SEN), the event will feature live performances from local bands, including the popular group, The Sunnies. Beyond entertainment, the event aims to engage young attendees in meaningful discussions about issues that matter to them and explore ways they can influence Melksham's future. Participants will have the opportunity to share their ideas, engage in discussions, and take part in interactive activities designed to empower them and amplify their voices within the community. This gathering will also facilitate connections among young people, local leaders, and community organizers, allowing attendees to discover how they can actively participate in shaping youth-focused initiatives in Melksham. Tickets for the event will be available soon, with options to secure them through the Town Council office or online via Ticket Source, though spaces are expected to fill quickly. The introduction of the Youth Advisory Board promises to be an exciting development for Melksham, with the event on February 15 serving as a vibrant kickoff that puts the energy, ideas, and enthusiasm of the town's youth at the forefront of community engagement.
