In a heartwarming demonstration of community spirit, a partnership between Home Instead Central Hampshire (HICH), Dementia-Friendly Winchester, and Everyman cinema in Winchester has successfully raised £844.85 to support dementia care. This initiative reflects a growing commitment to creating a supportive environment for individuals affected by dementia, their families, and caregivers. HICH has been at the forefront of dementia care in the region, and their collaboration with local organizations aims to enhance the quality of life for those living with dementia. The funds raised will go towards continuing valuable programs that provide not only care but also engagement for those who often feel isolated due to their condition. Melissa Burnett, the General Manager of HICH, expressed pride in this ongoing effort, stating, “Creating a dementia-friendly community is a core part of our mission at Home Instead Central Hampshire. We are proud to partner with Dementia-Friendly Hampshire and Everyman Winchester to provide this valuable initiative.” Burnett highlighted the positive impact of the Dementia-Friendly Morning Matinees, describing them as "treasured events" that foster connection and enjoyment among attendees. Held on the first Wednesday of each month, these special film screenings are tailored with the needs of dementia patients in mind. The matinees offer a welcoming and safe environment, featuring low lighting and adjusted sound levels to ensure a comfortable viewing experience. With a curated selection of films, from beloved classics to uplifting favorites, the initiative invites participants to step away from their daily routines and create lasting memories with loved ones. Looking ahead, HICH has committed to continuing the Dementia-Friendly Morning Matinees into 2025, promising a diverse lineup of films designed to delight and inspire. The next screening, featuring the classic film "On the Town" (1949), will take place on January 8, with doors opening at 10:15 AM and films starting at 10:45 AM. Attendees can look forward to complimentary tea, coffee, and popcorn during the show, further enhancing the communal atmosphere of the event. In addition to the matinees, HICH is actively involved in various dementia-friendly activities, such as “Singing for the Brain,” and recently launched the successful ‘Be a Santa to a Senior’ campaign, which collected gifts for elderly residents in local assisted living homes. For those interested in attending the next matinee or learning more about HICH’s services, the organization encourages inquiries via phone at 01962 736681 or email at [email protected]. Updates and information are also available through their social media channels, ensuring that the community continues to stay connected and informed about these uplifting initiatives.
