Ramos, PhD, as its new President and Chief Executive Officer, effective January 21, 2025. Dr. Ramos, a prominent figure in cancer research, joins the organization with a wealth of experience and a strong commitment to advancing biomedical innovation. Previously, Dr. Ramos held the role of Director and Chief Executive Officer at the Louisiana Cancer Research Center, where he distinguished himself as a leader in fostering scientific collaboration and securing vital funding for research initiatives. His ability to drive innovative programs and his extensive background in cancer research make him an ideal fit for The Lundquist Institute, which is dedicated to accelerating scientific discovery and enhancing health outcomes across the globe. Dr. Ramos is well-regarded for his expertise in cancer signaling and metastasis. His career has been characterized by a focus on understanding the mechanisms that underlie cancer progression, particularly in brain, kidney, and skin cancers. His research has not only contributed to the scientific community through numerous publications in prestigious journals but has also resulted in two patents aimed at developing therapies to inhibit tumor growth and invasion. The Lundquist Institute, which boasts a portfolio of over 600 active research studies led by 100 principal investigators, spans various fields, including genetics, infectious diseases, cardiology, cancer, regenerative medicine, and public health. Dr. Ramos will oversee this expansive research agenda, bringing his vision and leadership to an organization with a long-standing legacy of biomedical innovation. In a statement regarding his new position, Dr. Ramos expressed his enthusiasm for joining The Lundquist Institute, emphasizing the organization's commitment to improving community and global health. "I look forward to collaborating with TLI's extraordinary team to advance its mission of saving lives through cutting-edge research, education, and community engagement," he said. Mitchel Sayare, PhD, Chair of The Lundquist Institute's Board of Directors, highlighted Dr. Ramos's exceptional leadership qualities, noting their potential impact on the institution's future. "His exceptional leadership and vision will be pivotal as we advance biomedical research and develop innovative solutions to improve global health," Sayare remarked. Dr. Ramos takes over the leadership role from Marianne Gausche-Hill, MD, FACEP, FAAP, FAEMS, who has served as Interim President and CEO since December 2023. The Board of Directors expressed their gratitude for her contributions during this transitional period. As The Lundquist Institute continues to play a critical role in Los Angeles County's life sciences ecosystem, Dr. Ramos's appointment heralds a new chapter for the organization, one that is expected to further enhance its mission of delivering groundbreaking discoveries and innovations aimed at saving lives.
